Tard Foundation

Tard Foundation’s mission is to strengthen grassroots movements through capacity building, collaborative networks, and advocacy tools, enabling them to lead transformative initiatives in their communities. The organization’s core programming focuses on climate justice, education, and community empowerment, and its work has revealed the impact of valuing climate justice in advancing girls’ education and empowerment. As a result, Tard Foundation is expanding its work to explicitly center girls as leaders.

As the climate crisis escalates, many girls are exposed to displacement, impacts on their education, and vulnerability to climate shocks. Girls often lack access to relevant, practical, and empowering climate education. The absence of gender-responsive, action-oriented climate education means that girls are denied not only the tools for survival but also the opportunity to lead change in their communities.

With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund, Tard Foundation will implement its Girls Climate Justice Fellowship. Through interactive workshops, community-based learning, and mentorship, the project will provide locally relevant climate literacy modules to girls. Beyond technical skills, the project will build girls’ leadership, communication, and advocacy abilities to allow them to engage meaningfully in environmental spaces. Girls will design, develop, and implement small-scale community projects to apply their learning and will be empowered to act as change-makers in their communities.

The project expects to reach 100 adolescent girls and 1000 community members indirectly. The organization hopes to empower adolescent girls in Uganda to become climate protectors in their schools, homes, and communities. By linking climate education to the real barriers girls face, this Tard Foundation hopes to empower girls to become environmental leaders, thereby expanding their educational opportunities and strengthening their voices and agency.
