Concern for the Girl Child (CGC) is a nonprofit organization based in Uganda that operates across the cities of Luwero, Nakaseke, Nakasongola, and Kampala. The organization’s mission is to empower adolescent girls through education, vocational training, and programs focused on health. Since its founding, CGC has supported scholarships for more than 1,300 girls, and it has delivered WASH services to more than 15,000 youth. Building partnerships with schools, parents, and community leaders, CGC works to transform the lives of Uganda’s most vulnerable girls.
Girls in Uganda face many barriers to accessing quality education. In areas such as the Nakaseke District, girls often drop out of school at an early age due to factors such as poverty and harmful social norms. As a result, they are at a high risk for child marriage and teenage pregnancies, which further limits their opportunites. Without targeted intervention, many girls struggle to overcome this cycle, and CGC seeks to provide them with the support they need to chart a brighter future.
With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund, CGC will implement the “Grow to Glow – Girl Power Project,” which aims to address the challenges of teenage pregnancies and child marriages. Focusing on the Nakaseke and Luwero districts, CGC will empower girls with the tools they need to make informed decisions about their futures. Specifically, CGC will implement training sessions focused on girls’ rights, leadership skills, and mental health. Additionally, it will spearhead community outreach efforts and awareness campaigns to create supportive, enabling environments for adolescent girls.
GCG expects to support 200 girls through its project, as well as more than 2000 community members and parents through its community outreach efforts. With a holistic approach, girls will develop essential life skills and build resilience. By creating space for healing, learning, and growth, the project aims to promote a future where girls are confident and capable of leading change in their communities.
