Fundación Niñas Valientes is a nonprofit organization that aims to promote gender equity through education in Chile. One of its programs, Edución Valiente, builds the capacity of educators to foster gender equity and helps schools create inclusive policies. Niñez Protagonista, the other key program, provides platforms for girls to develop leadership skills and lead social initiatives. Over the past seven years, Niñas Valientes has directly impacted more than 9,700 youth across 8 regions of Chile.
Gender-based violence and discrimination are common in Chilean schools. Cultural norms often lead to biased curriculums, inequitable treatment from teachers, and limited opportunities for girls, particularly in leadership roles or STEM courses. Furthermore, girls who challenge traditional roles are frequently isolated or ridiculed. These experiences contribute to girls having low self-esteem and reduced aspirations. Niñas Valientes addresses these challenges through the active engagement of girls, educators, and school leadership teams.
With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund, Niñas Valientes aims to assess the needs and resources of each educational community, train school leadership and educators on gender-transformative education, support equitable curriculum design, and facilitate learning exchanges between schools. Additionally, they aim to implement sessions to equip adolescent girls with tools to design and lead projects that advance gender-transformative education within their communities.
This project will impact approximately 350 girls and 155 teachers. By promoting inclusive educational environments and empowering young leaders, the organization’s ultimate hope is to foster a society where all children thrive with equal rights and opportunities.
