Hamro Palo

Hamro Palo

Hamro Palo is a nonprofit organization working to advance gender equality by investing in adolescent girls’ education, leadership, and agency in primarily rural and underserved areas of Nepal. The organization creates learning spaces where girls build leadership and life skills, communication skills, and awareness of their rights, health, and well-being. Hamro Palo also organizes conferences, workshops, and initiatives that provide platforms for girls to discuss issues affecting their lives and strengthen their leadership and advocacy skills. Its programs  engage teachers, parents, and community members to create environments that support girls’ education, safety, and participation.

Adolescent girls in Nepal face gender inequalities that limit their opportunities for meaningful participation in education, leadership, and decision-making. Gender norms and socio-cultural expectations often prioritize boys’ education and restrict girls to household responsibilities, contributing to higher dropout rates and reduced continuity in schooling. Many schools lack structured spaces where girls can openly express opinions, build communication skills, or engage in leadership activities. In rural and underserved districts, these challenges are compounded by limited resources, safety concerns, and a lack of programs that address girls’ unique developmental needs.

With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund, the Hamro Palo will create safe, supportive spaces for adolescent girls in Nepal’s Bardiya district. Through school-based sessions, mentorship, and public speaking circles, girls will strengthen communication, decision-making, and advocacy skills. Safety and well-being workshops for girls and schools will raise awareness of gender-based risks and create supportive environments. Girls will actively participate in designing activities, and teachers, parents, and community members will be engaged to support girls’ leadership and participation.

The project expects to reach 300 adolescent girls directly and an additional 700 community members. By engaging girls in both the design and implementation of activities, the project will strengthen their leadership and life skills, create supportive environments, and contribute to greater gender equality both within communities and nationally.
