Hope 4 Young Girls Tanzania’s mission is to ensure that disadvantaged girls have access to education, knowledge, and opportunities that help them reach their full potential. Its programs focus on education, economic empowerment, sexual and reproductive health education, and the prevention of gender-based violence.
Adolescent girls in the rural Morogoro District in Tanzania face multiple barriers that limit their access to quality education and increase the risk of school dropout. Financial hardship within households often forces families to prioritize other needs over girls’ education. Cultural practices and gender norms also continue to affect girls’ education, as many girls are expected to take on domestic responsibilities or face pressure related to early marriage. Community members and schools often lack the engagement and capacity to support girls’ education and life skills development. As a result, many adolescent girls in Morogoro remain at risk of falling behind or leaving school.
With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund, Hope 4 Young Girls Tanzania will provide school materials for highly vulnerable girls identified through a needs assessment. The project will also equip adolescent girls with life skills and digital literacy skills through training sessions delivered in schools focused on building girls’ confidence, leadership abilities, decision-making skills, and gender equality awareness. The project will conduct capacity-building training and staff to ensure sustainability beyond the project period. The project will finally engage parents and community leaders through awareness sessions and discussions aimed at addressing harmful cultural practices and norms that limit girls’ education.
The project is expected to reach 5,000 girls and 100,000 community members. By investing in girls’ education, personal development, and supportive community environments, the initiative seeks to strengthen the foundation that allows girls to grow, learn, and pursue their aspirations. Ultimately, the project aims to nurture a generation of girls who are informed, confident, and equipped to make positive choices for their lives.
