Hope Sahel

Hope Sahel

Hope Sahel is a youth-driven grassroots organization that operates in eight regions of Niger. Hope Sahel is guided by a vision to see all girls realize their full potential. To that end, the organization works towards three main objectives to support girls and women: improving employment opportunities, promoting participation in social and public life, and strengthening protection. Since its founding in 2019, Hope Sahel has supported nearly 800 girls through its empowerment projects and advocacy efforts. Hope Sahel’s projects and advocacy focus on issues such as school retention, professional development, humanitarian response, and ending early and forced marriages.

The Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund will support Hope Sahel’s “Power of the Digital” project. Hope Sahel recognizes that many girls are facing new forms of gender-based violence online like cyber-harassment and doxxing, particularly when girls speak on gender equality and their rights. The Power of Digital project will address inequalities in access to technology by teaching girls how to protect themselves while using technology and online platforms. Power of the Digital will include lessons on identifying online violence and organizing online advocacy campaigns. By the end of these sessions, girls will acquire skills to protect themselves while using their voice in online campaigns and advocacy efforts.

Through this project, Hope Sahel will teach girls how to influence social change in an innovative way. In doing so, the organization hopes to uplift the next generation of advocates and leaders, equipping girls with crucial skills they need to succeed in the digital age.
