MIFUMI

MIFUMI

MIFUMI is a community of grassroots women activists and human rights defenders committed to ending gender-based violence. The organization employs women-centered, asset-building solutions to address domestic violence response and prevention.

In Uganda, poverty, gender inequality, and economic dependence contribute to a high prevalence of violence against women and girls. Teen pregnancy, child marriage, and violence against children also persist in many communities.

With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund, MIFUMI will enhance awareness and knowledge on the negative impacts of child marriage among adolescent girls, parents, and community members. It will provide training in entrepreneurship, life skills, and sexual and reproductive health. The organization will also support education costs and provide sports and arts programming for at-risk girls.

The project will directly support 500 girls and an additional 300 community members, including parents, teachers, and community stakeholders. With targeted education and strong community mobilization, MIFUMI hopes to create increased awareness, attitude change, and action to prevent and end child marriage and open doors for girls’ leadership, education, and dignity.
