Mukti Nepal

Mukti Nepal

Mukti Nepal supports the empowerment and leadership development of the most marginalized groups in Nepal. The organization supports girls through advocating against child marriage, dowry, and gender-based violence, providing educational materials to out-of-school girls, and offering economic empowerment skills training. The organization’s work has resulted in a reduction of child marriage and dowry, leadership opportunities for women and girls, and a safer environment for victims of violence.

In Nepal, particularly in the provinces of Golbazar, Siraha, and Madesh, deeply rooted cultural practices and social structures perpetuate child marriage and suppress the rights and voices of girls. Literacy rates are low and poverty rates are high. Although child marriage is legally banned in Nepal, enforcement remains weak, and social acceptance of the practice continues to undermine legal protections.

With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund, Mukti Nepal will host visits with teachers, parents, and school management to support norms change around child marriage and girls’ education and health. It will form support groups and provide skills training to child marriage victims and out-of-school girls. Mukti Nepal will also provide counseling sessions on reproductive health rights with girls and their families. The organization will also provide school supplies and materials to alleviate financial barriers.

Through this project, Muktil Nepal expects to reach 600 adolescent girls and 500 community members. By challenging harmful practices, the organization aims to create an environment where girls can develop leadership skills, pursue their education, and break down barriers so they can live a life of self-confidence.
