P.R.E.T.T.Y INC. provides comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and choice education to girls and women in Chicago, empowering them to become their own best advocates. The organization achieves this through several key services, including the distribution of menstrual hygiene kits, coaching on communication, community and school-based workshops, and an innovative card game designed to facilitate interactive, scenario-based discussions on prevention.
The Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund will support P.R.E.T.T.Y INC.’s launch of its newest program, “The Camp of Confidence.” This transformative four-day experience is dedicated to building self-assurance and delivering essential sexual health education to a cohort of 20 Black adolescent girls. Participants will receive expert guidance from gynecologists, lifestyle coaches, health professionals, stylists, and nutritionists. The camp will feature structured activities, customized plans developed from the girls’ individual assessments, and culminate in a “Debut” where family and friends can witness the girls’ renewed dedication to themselves, their culture, and their community. To solidify the skills acquired during the camp, ongoing support will be provided to participants at 30, 60, and 90 days following the camp.
Through this experience, P.R.E.T.T.Y INC. aims to directly address issues of low self-esteem and insufficient access to sexual health knowledge, which often lead to adverse outcomes such as sexually transmitted infections, abuse, and insecurity. Girls who attend The Camp of Confidence will walk away with the necessary tools and information to make more informed and safer health decisions. P.R.E.T.T.Y INC.’s programs specifically focus on comprehensive communication and life skills instruction, the development of self-love and self-care practices, and the promotion of body positivity.
