SHE Chicago is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering minority adolescent girls by bridging the gap between social-emotional learning (SEL) and academic success. Born from the need for tailored programs that meet the unique needs of young women of color, SHE Chicago provides comprehensive leadership training that fosters critical thinking and encourages girls to reflect on the role they play within their families, communities, and the world at-large. The organization achieves its mission through mentorship, college and career exploration, and community engagement.
SHE Chicago’s programs include weekly character education courses to support social-emotional learning, access to impactful community service opportunities, and college and career exploration through corporate shadowing, college tours, college fairs, and interest-based career education. The organization envisions strong, humble and empowered women leading their families and communities with compassion, discernment, and integrity. Through a strategic approach to education, exposure, and experiences, SHE Chicago aims to diversify the American workforce with highly skilled and young women who see themselves as integral parts of the global community.
The Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund will support SHE Chicago’s expansion to the Hyde Park Academy High School, located near the Obama Presidential Center. This 10-month program will empower 30 girls ages 12 to 19 through a blend of social-emotional skill-building and academic advancement. Participants will benefit from weekly SEL mentoring sessions, monthly community engagement activities, and college and career exploration, further solidifying SHE Chicago’s commitment to cultivating future leaders.
