Squash Dreamers is a nonprofit organization based in Jordan dedicated to empowering refugee and underserved girls through sport, education, and wellbeing programming. Its mission is to provide girls with a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where they can develop the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to reach their full potential.
Girls in East Amman face multiple and overlapping barriers that limit their access to education and development. Many girls from refugee and underserved communities attend overcrowded schools, resulting in learning gaps and low literacy levels. Beyond academic barriers, girls often have limited access to safe and inclusive spaces. Restrictive gender norms, economic hardship, and the instability of displacement can limit girls’ opportunities, increasing the risk of leaving school early and facing pressure to marry at a young age.
With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund, Squash Dreamers will provide holistic, long-term programming that combines education, sport, and wellbeing. Through its education program, Squash Dreamers will provide tailored academic support to help students improve outcomes in language, math, literacy, and general study habits. The sport program uses squash and fitness as tools for empowerment, helping girls develop confidence, discipline, teamwork, resilience, and leadership skills. Wellness is integrated in the program through mental health and life-skills sessions, mentoring, and access to resources that support their physical and emotional health.
Squash Dreamers expects to reach 90 adolescent girls and an additional 60 community members through this project. Ultimately, the organization aims to help more girls are able to continue their education, access new opportunities, and grow into confident, resilient young women who can contribute to their families and communities.
