As conflicts and crises upend communities and nations around the world, adolescent girls are acutely affected—yet their unique challenges are often overlooked. Girls in these settings often lack access to basic services and humanitarian support, as well as sexual and reproductive health care. They are also at an increased risk for child marriage, gender-based violence, and displacement.
The need to invest in girls is critical, especially as global crises—ranging from war and democratic backsliding to natural disasters and climate emergencies—have jeopardized girls’ wellbeing and threaten to undermine progress toward gender equality. Recognizing the power and potential of every girl, The Girls Opportunity Alliance is committing $1 million in support of girls who are disproportionately impacted by global conflict and crises.
In collaboration with various organizations—CARE, Plan International, Save the Children, and UNICEF USA—we are supporting efforts to invest in girls affected by crises in places such as Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Gaza, Haiti, Lebanon, Nigeria, Sudan, and Ukraine. These organizations will provide vital humanitarian support, enabling girls to continue learning despite challenging circumstances. We hope you’ll join us in supporting girls in critical need because the future of our world is only as bright as our girls.
