Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS India) is a grassroots nonprofit organization based in Ajmer, Rajasthan. RSKS India is committed to improving the lives of marginalized women and girls by addressing critical challenges such as education, gender discrimination, and the effects of climate change. Since its founding in 1992, the organization has supported more than 240,000 women and girls in India through 70 diverse programs which aim to address the root causes of poverty, violence, and social inequities.
Gender discrimination is a significant barrier to girls’ education in Rajasthan. Social norms often devalue girls, and their access to learning opportunities. Dropout rates among girls are high, and factors such as poverty often make it difficult for families to support their daughters’ education. In the Ajmer district specifically, the female literacy rate is approximately 41 percent, compared to 76 percent for men. The Covid-19 pandemic has further exacerbated these challenges, pushing girls out of school and into early marriages or the informal labor force.
With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance, RSKS India will implement an educational program for girls who are illiterate or have dropped out of school. The organization will establish five learning centers in rural villages, providing opportunities for learning and life skills development. Daily classes will focus on topics such as leadership, digital literacy, and health. The organization will also incorporate physical education through yoga and sports. Additionally, RSKS India will provide school supplies, uniforms, and nutritious meals, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder girls’ learning.
Through this project, RSKS India will support 150 girls, as well as 1,000 community members through sensitization training in villages. By empowering young girls, RSKS India aims to break the cycle of poverty which affects families in Ajmer, contributing to sustainable development and change. RSKS India envisions a future in which every girl has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. To learn more about RSKS India, please visit the organization’s website and social media pages:
