Richard C. and his wife had worked hard for many years to save up and finally purchase their first home 25 years ago. In their small neighborhood in Texas, they built a life rooted in hard work, generosity, and care for their community.

That changed when historic flooding swept through the area this summer without warning, causing devastating damage. Like many of their neighbors, Richard and his wife did not have flood insurance. They lost nearly everything, including their clothing, shoes, and food, and were left facing an uncertain path forward.

Knowing they needed support during an overwhelming time, their son started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover essential needs and begin saving for home repairs. Shortly after, Richard and his wife received a grant from GoFundMe.org’s Flood Relief Fund. The additional support helped them close the immediate gap and begin taking the first steps toward returning home.

“It is going to cost three times as much as we originally anticipated to get us back in our home. Thank you all for your support.”

Richard C.
