Women’s Resource Center

Women’s Resource Center

The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls and women through education, vocational training, and advocacy for gender equality. Its mission is to create a safe and supportive environment where girls can access essential resources that promote their personal and academic growth. WRC’s programming includes educational workshops, mentorship programs, and life skills training, all designed to equip girls with the tools they need to succeed. To date, the organization has supported more than 1,000 adolescent girls, helping them to complete their education, develop critical life skills, and gain confidence in their abilities.

WRC implements its programs in Siem Reap, Cambodia, where many girls face significant barriers to education. Cultural norms and economic challenges often lead families to prioritize boys’ education over girls’, leading to high dropout rates among girls. Additionally, issues such as gender-based violence, child marriage, and limited access to safe spaces prevent girls from reaching their full potential, perpetuating cycles of poverty and inequality. Without targeted interventions, many girls miss out on opportunities that could transform their lives and communities.

With support from the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund, WRC will implement a comprehensive project that provides after-school workshops for adolescent girls. The workshops will focus on critical life skills, including leadership, communication, and personal development. The organization will also provide training on topics relating to girls’ health, providing crucial information to allow girls to make informed decisions about their futures. Through this project, WRC aims to provide safe spaces for girls to gather, share experiences, and support each other, promoting community and emotional wellbeing.

WRC expects to directly support 500 girls with its project, and it also aims to engage 200 community members through dialogue sessions. With a holistic approach, the organization seeks to address the range of factors that prevent girls from continuing their education. Ultimately, WRC envisions a brighter future for the girls of Siem Reap, one in which they are able to fully pursue their dreams and aspirations.
